Keep your family and your new home safe throughout the holiday season!

The holidays are a time of fun and family, but they can also be dangerous. In our last blog, we went over a few tips to keep your family and your new home safe all through the holidays. Today, we will be finishing up our list with these last few holiday safety tips:

#6. Keep your tree properly watered.

A dry tree with electrical lights hanging all over it is a fire hazard. You can avoid this fire hazard by putting up a fake tree, but if you do decide to go with an artificial tree, make sure that it says that it’s fire resistant on the label. If you decide to purchase a live tree, make it a point to keep it properly watered. If it looks like it is starting to dry out, you may need to take it down and start over with a new one.

#7. Use LED lights instead of incandescent bulbs.

LED lights are a whole lot cooler than incandescent bulbs, which can help to reduce your risk for a fire during the holidays. LED lights are also more durable, which means that there is less of a chance that your bulbs will break and leave shards of glass on the floor.

#8. Be careful when you light candles.

Candles are a wonderful addition to the holidays, but unfortunately, they can easily cause a fire in your home. Whenever possible, use electronic candles instead of traditional ones, and if you do decide to light regular candles, make sure that you are always present when they are lit.
